Was in a shop recently and noticed that the machine oilers were filled with a bight blue way oil. The oil was almost neon cobalt blue. Explanations was that they have gone to a color coded oil system to help prevent the wrong oil in the wrong hole epidemic (machine tool Ebola).

Apparently, way oil has found it's way no spindles, hydraulic oil into way lubricators, etc.

Anybody know here this stuff comes from? May not work any better than anything else but it looks cool and you could see the blue film on the surfaces.

I would buy it. I also would like to know if the oil is getting to where it is supposed to be.

Is it possible that they just added some sort of dye to the way oil? Mobil or one of the other way oil manufacturers might be able to suggest a suitable dye, if one exists. Mobil was quite helpful a few years back when I was looking for modern equivalents to the lubes recommended in the 40+ year old manual for my Clausing lathe.

The lube system in our flow water jet uses a bright blue Mobil lube - not sure if it's suitable as way oil or not.

As long as its a true way oil, and not one of those Eco friendly oils you can use as coolant should be OK.
