    Minimizing wasted cutting time.

Hello, I am hoping someone here can help with with a problem I am having.

I am trying to cut a round wire groove into a piece that has already been cut to the desired shape in the EDM. I am using Surface Rough Parallel to rough the slot into the material and using Surface Finish Parallel to finish. I am having issues with the roughing cut cutting air over the radius as (hopefully) shown in the picture. Is there a way to minimize this? Maybe am I using the incorrect toolpath for what I need to do?

Please let me know if I need to clarify anything to help you help me. Thanks for your time!

"rough" removes material from assumed/understood stock.

"finish" will follow the final surface.

Use surface finish for both and manually tell it "stock to leave" to create your "roughing" passes. Multiple passes can be done with multiple identical operations by decreasing "stock to leave" on each op

Thanks, I will give that a shot. Is there a way to tell the "rough" toolpath what the assumed/understood stock is? I went into the stock set up page and was able to make a stock solid model of my part before the groove was milled in but I couldn't figure out if I could tie any parameters to said stock model.

    Again, thanks for your help!

That's a question for another fella unfortunately. I don't do very much 3d. In fact I have switched over to hsmxpress for 90% of what I do. Still used master cam for occasional 3D and engraving only

Well thanks again, the whole stepping the finish down with leaving stock on the drive worked great!

Using High speed core rough tool paths you stay in contact more often then using any of the surface rough tool paths
