    Bobcad drawing

Hey, Just wondering if there's anybody out there that might be able to help me with a bobcad question. I have a customer that would like me to cut his name out of an old saw mill blade. How do I make a drawing that would work on that blade. I know I'm making this sound more confusing then it probably is. I'm still fairly new at this. How do I load that saw mill blade into bobcad so I can make the drawing up. Thanks. Robyn

Can you give us a "napkin" drawing and take a picture of it and post it here ?

I am not sure what you are asking.Need as much info as you can provide.
1st off are you Plasma Cutting or Milling ?
What version of BoB are you using.
How are you placing your text ? You can do it vertical or horizontal or circular,,,that is why I asked for a rough drawing.
    What kind of Font ?
    How big of letters ?
You have to understand when you say "cut out" a name,,you have to imagine how that is going to look.Example,,an "O" is going to look like a hole, unless you somehow leave the inner part intact.

Notice the "O" will not work with this font,,,the center will fall out

agreed! "tag" the "O" throw some lines up until it looks acceptable, keep the dropout centers there, I do it all the time, bobcad or other.

Shoot me out the file (DXF, cad, etc.) Im not shy on format.

Hey, Thanks so much for the tips. Here is a picture of the drawing. The customer wants me to cut those names out of the saw blade. I have always made my drawings up and put it in whatever shape I've designed. But I've never used a piece of metal that's already in the shape the customer wants. I'm not sure how to nest the drawing so that Mach 3 understands what it is I'm doing. Because when I go to nest the names without some type of border around the drawing, the nesting program of course nests each individual letter. Which won't work because I need to get these names onto the blade. I've always nested and then saved drawing to the Mach program. Is there a way to bypass nesting and do the drawing in Mach program.

Whether you want to engrave or pocket the letters, you dont need any other shape added. Only ref. Just add a circle the diameter of the blade. Maybe make one for the hole in the middle. Place the text in the center and toolpath the text only.. the circle will be for zeroing the stock at the machine.

Hey, Okay what you've said makes complete sense and I understand what you're saying. I've never had to do that so this is a first for me. I'll see if I can figure out how to do that. Really appreciate your help.
    Thanks, Robyn

I now know how to upload pic's, lol, this will not end well.

side bar: there is a whole qbasic proprietary language built into this thing, its tweakable till your sick of it. They hate me when i question them, FYI, it's there, they're not telling you. Want the list? It's not good but works.
