DO NOT USE THE 5V WALL WARTS FROM KELINGINC!!!!!!

just plugged in my little chinese 5v wall wart that come with my cnc kit form keling/automationtechnology

i was not going to use it because it felt to cheap, and i was sure it had no regulator. just for kicks i wanted to see how close to 5v it is. plugged her in and measure the dc voltage with my fluke and got 26v dc! after about 20 seconds plugged in something inside popped and let out some majic smoke!

good thing i didnt try powering my smothstepper or BOB with it! keling should stop selling those. 5V Breakout Board Power Supply | Automation Technology Inc

I didn't measure the voltage out of mine but but I did use it to power my c10 and smootherstepper. I do remember it stopped working like a month in to using it so I just got one locally, no biggie

at least check voltage on it (or any power supply) before connecting to expensive electronics. i will be using an ATX computer supply i think.

    Is it marked at 5vdc?
A lazy man does it twice.

input says 100 to 240v ac 50-60hz output 5vdc 1000mA upon inspection a capacitor inside blew. it does seem to be regulated though and has lots of circuitry inside, but none of it seemed to work lol. also there is alot of rust on some of the component legs from its journey from china.

If it was 1$ I might have laughed at the purchase, but i'm seeing 9.99 on the link and at that price you should see 5 volts +/- 2% under full load, and it should last 10 years.

This is the 4th time I buy from Keling (BOB, Motors, Drivers and the 5VDC wall-wart) and they all heve performed as they should. Strange to hear this about the wall-wart

Next time I will make sure to verify the 5VDC, you never know.

Do those wall warts put out much higher than nameplate voltage when they are not loaded?

A really nasty failure mode of some of the DC-DC regulators used in those cheap china regulator circuits is they fail with Vout = Vin. I don't need to tell you what happens when 5V electronics encounter 24V supply.
