Change X axis for longer one = change motor ?

    Hi everyone !

I'm very new here, so thanks for welcoming me in this forum

I'm thinking about changing one of the axis of my 3axis CNC mill.

I was wondering if longer axis automatically implies bigger axis motors (I think so but not sure in what extent)?

I go these motors (Stepper Motor 57BYGH76-3A) on all 3 axis of my machine. My X axis is ~60 cm long, and I would go for something like ~ 120 / 150 cm.

In case it helps, here's a description of my machine : CNC X6-1500GT-USB (3-Axes-Version) router engraver drilling and milling machine - carving-cnc.com (not DIY machine, but I tought you DIY may be able to have more information about upgrading / changing parts on a CNC).

Thank you guys for your help !

You shouldn't need to change the motor just because you're extending the X axis. The only reason you might need to do that is if you're making the gantry heavier, and the old motor doesn't have enough torque to push it. If the motor you've got is working okay, leave it alone and just do the extension.

You may have to get longer cables and hoses but the should be no great strain on expanding .

Just to keep you guys posted :

I changed the supported rails and ballscrew for 2meters one (instead of 60cm), and everything went as smooth as possible

    Thanks for your advices !
