Re: Denford NovaTurn Servo retrofit AMD Gizmosphere iBOB2 PCIe x1

I have had to repair the encoder, it was faulty / defective. I have posted all the information that I could locate that might identify the encoder.
It appears to be a 755A with a 10mm shaft with flat. In the Novaturn, only A and index are used.
I modified my encoder to provide all signals, A A', B B', Z Z' which will be used for position control.
I had to replace the ET7272B as it was faulty. I may modify the case to accept a 10 pin connector for quick disconnect.
For those of you who might have a damaged or faulty encoder, please see the information below.
I am currently designing a circuit to interface the Hardinge control panel to the MESA 7i77. This circuit will control the leds and membrane switches without using any additional I/O on the 7i77.
Has anyone else looked at the Gizmosphere for CNC / control applications?

    I hope this helps,

    Iron-Man

    PathPilot on AMD Gizmosphere1, T40E + iBOB2

I am almost finished. I have PathPilot running on the GizmoSphere 1.
    Specs:
G-T40E dual-core processor running at 1.0 GHz, combined on a single die with AMD Radeon™ HD 6250 discrete-class graphics. The board provides a performance capacity of 52 gigaFLOPS (GFLOPS) at less than 10 watts. Custom high- and low-speed edge connectors enable a full range of functions. This unprecedented level of integration between serial and parallel processing offers a power-efficient foundation for high-performance multimedia content delivery across a broad range of embedded designs such as digital signage, x86 set-top box (xSTB), IP-TV, thin client, information kiosk, point-of-sale, casino gaming, media servers and industrial control systems.

Currently decoding I/O on the Hardinge interface. The MPG, Axis select, and Rapid Override are functioning under Linuxcnc. I just need to change the bit file and 7i77 I/O for complete functioning.

The Denford NovaTurn uses Inductive Sensors, BES 517-352-NO-L. I currently have them functioning in PathPilot. X and Z reference works correctly and also sets the soft limits.
Will post video soon and use PathPilot to make initial test parts.

I had to change out the Denford tool post to a AXA style quick change tool post. Now I can follow the 15LSlant-Pro videos for tool offsets and set-ups. I am still looking for a suitable auto tool changer to modify for this lathe. Initial test cuts look promising. Initial diameter 0.3312 wanted 0.3151( Yaskawa SGMP motor shaft diameter), measured with micrometer 0.3153, delta = 0.0002.

Is that an Emco turret that you will adapt to the Denford? I'm following this build with interest as well as Smokediver's Emco thread.

I have a PC turn 55 (running on WinNC) and am about to take delivery of a 120 that will need a retrofit as the electronics are inoperable at the time and may not be salvageable. I have a Tormach mill too, so I would love to get them both working with PathPilot but know little about linuxcnc and its underpinnings.

Would you be willing to share what you have learned about configuring Pathpilot lathe for other machines? I am super comfortable with the electronics and mechanical side of things, it is the software configuration on Linux that scares me.

    Keep up the great work!

Yes, it is a Emco turret. I am also doing the refit for Smokediver. Let me know if you want to upgrade to servos.

For the big one, yes I think I will have to move to servos. For the little one, not unless that is the only way out. I believe the steppers and drivers that are currently in place can be made to work with a mesa card based on some threads I have seen on the linuxcnc forums.

Denford NovaTurn refit with AC servos.
1/4 20 thread test with sample parts.

    Nice job.

I see you are running Path Pilot. Do you intend to have that tool changer front or rear mounted? If front mounted, do you see any issue setting up Path Pilot's tool page or format?

I am just starting to learn LinuxCnc. I would enjoy using that kind of set up. There is plenty to learn there before that happens ;-)

    Thanks Fastest1

I am looking at both options. Pathpilot uses a pwm signal to encode the tool number. I will be using a pic micro to decode this for a transparent interface to path pilot.

Re: Denford NovaTurn Servo retrofit AMD Gizmosphere iBOB2 PCIe x1

I started my conversion of a EMCO Tool Turret a few weeks ago.
    STATUS:

EMCO Compact 55 Tool Changer modified with a AMT203 ABS Encoder with SPI interface.
    ARM LPC1768.
The encoder interface is now working.
Denford NovaTurn AC Servo Lathe used to make new encoder adapter.
The set-up uses the existing tool changer board. I am in the process of designing new board to replace the EMCO, that will have its own motor driver.

Next step is PathPilot interface to MESA 7i77.
