Using Constant Surface Footage on a Swiss SR20J

Just wondering if any one has any experience in using a G96 (constant surface footage) on tool locations T1100 thru T1400. Using the G96 code on locations T100 thru T600 (on Head 1) and T2100 thru T2400 (on Head 2) is not an issue but when attempting to use constant surface footage on a boring operation in locations T1100 thru T1400, in the X-Z axis, I get an X axis over travel alarm. Controller is a Fanuc 18i series.

Hi Dinnese, try rotating your boring bar 180 degrees. I can't remember from the ones I ran. But if the boring bar is facing down rotate it to face up. Or vice versa. I think you only have a very small amount of travel when the gang tool post is below the centre line of the guide bush.

I think Alan is right. The G96 is unrelated to the overtravel. Try flipping the boring bar 180* like he suggested.

This is a parameter issue. The machines ship from STAR with a limited amount of travel off of CL on T11-14. Are you putting your offset in Geometry or Wear? Either way a quick call to STAR and you can get the parameter that needs to be changed to fix this. 714-694-1255 ask for service.

    Hi Dinnese,
Al is right you need to check if you have enough stoke in the axis when using a boring bar

After selecting your tool number have you used also G23 to allow more stroke on axis limit

    T1100
    G23

If this does not work then you will need a parameter change

you can get away from all overtravel issues on those four tools by programming your b-bars on the "Y" axis.
