Emco FB-2 to CNC for foiling dies

    Hi there,

I'm totally new to CNC, but we have a small printing business that specializes in hot foil stamping and security hologram application.

We have an Emco FB-2 in the workshop that I want an engineer to convert to CNC for me so that we can hopefully CNC our own foiling and embossing dies out of brass, copper or magnesium.

I will fit ballscrews to the mill to make it more accurate, but hope that it will be accurate enough for the task at hand.

I would also like to make Refractive, textured dies if possible for our security printing side. Just have no idea how to do this. I would like to keep everything in house as I am focusing more on the security side of things. I just don't have the capital yet to buy a R500 000.00 machine to do this yet. And we aren't using the mill for anything else at the moment, so even if we JUST use it for the foiling blocks it would be great.

    Kind Regards

    Zaak

    Hi Zaak

You don't need an expensive machine to do what you want to do, if my understanding is correct. I have made the occasional foiling die for a design company who does origination for ad companies etc. If you send me a pic I can advise you on the hardware and software etc. to achieve what you want.

Sorry for my stupidity cadcamcolin, but do you need a pic of the Mill?

And thanks for the info Malgaz, as soon as I have the funds I will contact you for more info.

I have an engineer busy working on another attachment for my foiling machines, so as soon as that is bringing in some money, the next step is to CNC the Mill. Maybe I can buy all the components from you and just have the engineer fitting them for me?

    Hi ZK1

No just a pic of what you are trying to create, when I started out I bought some expensive software that was overkill for what I needed, I could have used the funds elswhere in my business too. I have grown into it since, but it took a long while to get a return on the investment.

Re: Emco FB-2 to CNC for foiling dies

    Hi Willy,

I have never gotten around to do this as the engineer stuffed me around on another project and I am basically R40 000.00 out of pocket.

Thus we have decided to sell the Emco FB-2 Mill and Emco Maximat Super 11 lathe to maybe invest in something else.

Any idea where I can get realistic values on these machines?

    Regards

    Zaak

    HI Zaak
we use cnc routers for machining our brass dies
something like a Datron would suit best especially for foiling or embossing dies DATRON M10 Pro | Datron High Speed CNC Machines
the machine i use at the minute is an Italian router DRD Allrounder
    hope this helps
