    Engraving Depth Regulator Attachment

    Hi,

I have been having a hard time locating a depth regulating device to engrave with to fit onto my spindle. All the ones I have seen are made for machines that have a spring loaded Z axis. What I am looking for is something that would have this spring loaded built in. Can't seem to find anything ! It would need to fit a Chinese 2.2kw spindle. I suppose If I can't find anything I may have to make something else work.

    Cheers

Good luck making one that will handle a higher RPM.

I'm thinking I will need to make another router head that moves on springs with a nose cone to get the speed I need

A little bit confused with their depth controlling nose cone, I looks as if the nose cone piece spins also ? I am trying to engrave engraving laminate, I think this would damage the surface somehow

I would think the RPM limitation has to do with balancing and that could be a problem when having parts with enough clearances that would move freely, especially considering how far it sticks out of the spindle's collet. The 3/8" shank version is rated at 6,000 RPM & 1/2" shank version is rated at 7,500 RPM.

I think I am just having trouble understanding how the bit won't just get driven into the plastic by the spring, all the other engraving systems use a stationary nose cone that references the work piece height

Maybe a spring loaded drag bit may be better suited for your application, but only you would know.
