I've been using this for 4 years with no problems and absolutely no rust. Make sure you get "Nitrite" and not "Nitrate". Sodium nitrite is used in food preservation so it should be safe for the quench. I also use it to keep metal pieces from rusting (just dunk them in unused quench) before they are clear coated.

I suspect that the food dye is used to let people know its not water, however giving something a blue color does not insure nobody will drink it. Roundup is blue, my son drank some of it, luckily never swallowed it.....

I use it as well, works great. I add more sodium nitrite when I add water.

    Re: Plasma quench

I have a small table. The water tray holds about 11 gallons. I add about 1/2 gallon per day for the evaporation. About every second week, I add about 1/2 the quench chemicals (for 11 gallons) and this seems to keep everything in check. No rust, no algae, and it doesn't cost much.

    No problems at all.

All of my rails and unpainted steel surfaces/ screws on the machine are as clean as they day I installed them.

As I mentioned before, I dunk metal art pieces in some clean quench if they are going to sit a while before I am going to paint or clear coat them.

You won't have any problems with this recipe.
