    max # of characters allowed in program line fanuc 31i

    Hello -

    What is the maximum number of characters in a programmed line on a fanuc 31i control? I have a calculation that is over 181 characters….

    Along the same lines, I am using "DPRNT" to format a line of data to be output, what is the maximum number of characters that can be used on that line? I am getting a "TOO MANY DIGITS" alarm when I run this part of the program. The longest line I have is 51 characters….

    I'm tired of trying to find this info in the fanuc manuals so I figured I'd try here for this info. Thanks for any help.

    Yes, there is a limit. On 0i only 34 characters can be typed. 31i might be allowing more. There are only two ways to tackle it: (1) Split the statement into multiple blocks, defining intermediate variables as required,(2) type the program on a pc and then transfer it to the machine.
