fixing a DXF file and saving it as DXF

sometimes I am helping out a mate fixing a DXF file for his use on a flatbed router.Every time I save the fixed file after getting rid of double lines and unwanted surfaces as DXF, it saves 10 times as big as the original.
I am running Rhino 5 with MadCam inside. Is this a setting issue or native to Rhino?
    Kind Regards,
    Dirk

Not sure about everything in the file but you could try "savesmall" first.

Thank you for the tip,but it only works for Rhino models.
to give an idea how big the files get:import DXF 2395kb, saved as Rhino 2537kb, saved as DXF 2004 polylines 23746kb.
The router uses Enrout software to write the toolpath and this software does not accept files this large.
I tried to write the toolpath with MadCam,but that results in unexplained chatter in the movements.
The Allen Bradley style Controller uses some custom G-Codes that my Mate can't explain to me.
This is the reason for my request to tweek Rhino to acheive smaller DXF files.

Sounds as if the "new" DXF you are outputting is breaking up the polylines or arcs into small linear moves

Just to get your procedure right
    - so you import the "old" DXF into Rhino, edit it, then do a "Save as" (export) into "new" DXF
( I'd check the export option settings in Rhino, on how the arcs ( & polylines ) are converted

    ( can you save to an earlier DXF version....say R12 ? )

A quick check would be to re-import the "new" DXF into Rhino and see what is being altered

My last try was to save small and in the R12 setting. The file size reduced from 1350kb to 78kb.Great success.Thank you
