    Weak Stepper or Bad? Help.

So my Bridgeport conversion that I made has been working faithfully for about 15 years. I've shattered the balls on the Z axis 3 times over the years. It happened again so I decided to fix it.

I went from a 16mm diameter 4mm pitch ball screw to a 25mm diameter 10mm pitch ball screw. I built it and installed it and it works fine as far as moving. I went to actually do some work with it today and it doesn't seem to have the power to drill into stainless. It skips trying to drill. So i'm wondering if the motor is bad or weak?

I'm use 8078 Keling Drives with a Nema 34 1200 oz in. motor. It's driving the ball screw with an XL timing pulley 20 tooth on the motor and ball screw, 1:1 ratio. This is the same as I used on the old setup.

Any ideas what I should do? New Motor, different gear reduction?
