    Abnormal current advice needed

Hello fellow metal heads! This is my first post.

I'm working on a Kitamura HX500 that has had a hard life before we bought it.
It leaked coolant into the connector feeding the B axis motor, and I suspect the motor might have some in it as well because after cleaning the connector, I read less than 2 megohms to ground.
I'm getting an "abnormal current" alarm as soon as the control comes on.
With the motor unplugged, I still get the alarm, but not for about a minute.
I think (hope) it might be sensing the absence of a motor.

Getting at this motor is going to be painful from what I see.
If anyone has any experience, advice, or condolences, I will be forever grateful.

    Rob.

    Re: Abnormal current advice needed

    Hi Rob,
Try disconnecting the power cable from the bottom of the drive, ( most important ), and check the insulation resistance ( phase to earth ) from the drive end of the cable to the motor, with the motor power plug disconnected. If you get a low reading there may be coolant in plug.
The other thing to try is to power on the machine with the motor lead disconnected and see if the fault goes.

The 2Mohms reading on the motor is rather low, it may need a strip down, clean and dry out.

What motors / drives are fitted to the machine? ( Alpha / Beta / Alpha i )

    Hope this helps,
    Chris.
