    Sense Step on Stepper ?

I wonder if its possible to sense each step on a stepper by monitoring the back emf of the un-energized windings or the backemf. This would allow for the calculation and compensation of lost steps by using a pick or arduino.

Connecting an encoder would be more simple & accurate.

It would be but was more thinking about doing it at the controller end with no additional hardware. was really just a thought after reading about someone doing something similar with a brushless DC motor.

What controller do you have? Custom Arduino? You could connect the encoder to ard. (+ some programming).

Re: Sense Step on Stepper ?

i have a few, nano, duo and uno. it was really just a brain fart after reading that article.

My other project is at the moment still underway but has stalled due to me not having the experience to add what I need to GRBL for sensing the switch, incramenting the counter and adding the custom M code that gets sent from the software. :/ May put another post up about it.
