    Nema23 weight limit

I just received 2.2KW water cooled spindle.
It weights 4.8 kg. Friend of my made me new mount in aluminum that weights 2.8 kg.
Old router was only half kg.

So i will be adding 6.5 kg of weight to my z-axis. Is this going to be too much for Nema23 270oz motor?

I tried moving z with new weight manually through mach3 and it works fine, but not sure what are the remedies if any on the longer run.

Any input will be highly appreciated.

It sounds like it does work. What are you worried about? The most likely issue is that the spindle will drop when the power's turned off. To combat that, you can set up a counterweight, use springs, or gas struts to offset the added weight.

I have no problem lifting a 115lb milling head, using a ball screw and a 280oz in motor.

Hi H500, Is the motor direct drive to the lead screw or is there a gear reduction?

I am using a 5 turn / inch ball screw and a 1.6x gear reduction for the z axis. I'm using a gas cylinder, but it is not needed for my speed setting of 100ipm. It's main purpose is to prevent the head from sliding down when power is removed.
