    BobCAD Post Processor

    A little background:

    I am running BobCAD V24(BCV24) with the latest available updates. I have been trying to do some rudimentary engraving but BCV24 keeps spitting out code that errors out in Mach3. Specifically, it keeps spitting out a G03 or G02 command the has 0.0 value for both I and J e.g.
    G03 X57.3944 Y7.3000 I0. J0. F250. From the precceding line of code it can be gathered that a counterclockwise movement has been commanded but no relative offsets have been assigned. This problem arises regardless of the post processor chosen. It simply moves a few places up or down the order of coded lines with respect to the post processor in use. Has anyone had this happen to their code?

    I have tried every available Mach3, Tormach, Haas and Fanuc post processor. Any help would be appreciated.:drowning:

    Could possibly be that the arcs don`t have a constant Z but that`s pure guesswork
    Upload a file as it could well be a wireframe issue, I assume there is a G17 in the code at the beginning ? ?

    OK, I have run your code through my Predator Backplotter and it looks like a geometry selection problem, possibly doubles on some arcs or breaks, as you have tried a number of different Posts I doubt it is a setting in the PP.

    Attached is a screen shot of your code after running it through the Backplotter, the Backplotter does moves exactly from the G code not like the simple Verify, you will clearly see where the toolpath has gone wrong, it is on all your smaller arcs especially inside letters and all the `Os`, the toolpath is jumping around which makes me think the geometry is not correctly selected.

    You will need to go carefully over all the areas shown on this image where the toolpath has gone wrong, don`t rely on the "Erase Doubles" function to clean it all up, zoom right in to the bad areas and you may find all sorts of breaks, overlaps, doubles etc etc etc



    If you want me to have a go at it here then please Zip up you BobCAD file, not the G code, gone as far as I can with that

    The G91.1 is a Mach3 setting that makes the I,J moves incremental, for absolute Mach3 would require G90.1, this is set in Mach3 under General Config, see image.

    Most BobCAD Posts default on line 222 to incremental so unless that has been changed there shouldn`t be a conflict.

    222. Arc center a=absolute, b=incremental, d=unsigned inc., e=radius? b

    I agree with you that the geometry selection probably needs sorting out.

    Thank you very much, EG. Attached to this post is the .zip of the file HDLogo. I did try other things such as varying the font and, in some cases, it did reduce the offeding lines from 32 total lines to 12. As for the backplot option, I have not that feature since the Predator NC editor bundled with my BCV24 is the most cost effective version.

    Right, it would appear to be a Font problem, Fonts are notoriously bad to engrave with most softwares, and most of the ones in BobCAD are poor, I have used a different Font and re-done all the text and it seems to be toolpathing and generating code OK now. I`ve got it as close as I can to your original in the short time I`ve worked on it, if you want me to do any more then let me know. Have a search on the WWW for some better fully Vectorised and cleaned up True Type Fonts, I`ve just used a basic Windows one.



    Anyway, I have attached the file for you to have a go with, I don`t have a copy of your Post Processor so I haven`t uploaded any code, you will have to generate and test out your own code, I have run it through my Backplotter and it looks good, whether it is good enough for what you want that`s up to you



    Sorry, that`s all I have for now

    P.S. I haven`t done anything with the tooling, feeds and speeds, I`ll leave that to you, you know what tools you have

    Thank you for all your help, Rob. While I have owned BCV24 for a few years now I have not really spent much time with it since this is a hobby for me. We all know how life likes to interrupt the enjoyment of such pursuits. I will be paying closer attention to BCV24's renderings going forward.

    I don't know about Mach3 and its respective syntactical codes (G91.1). However I have had years of good fortune using BobcadV 25 2D engrave on my Haas s-Mini( and the free Haas s-mini post compliments Bobcad). I also have a V24on my home computer, witch I have used and tested the 3D Equidistant Offset toolpath with good fortune!. Anyhow I took your logo file and generated several progs. for you from several diff. posts... The Predator graphic verify looks the same on all three postings...good. I included screen shots and the actual v-24 files...

    Firstly, I thank all who have responded with ideas and suggestions. I have since reviewed the file and tried to implement changes in the cut strategy. The files so generously volunteered will be run tomorrow to see if Mach 3 will accept the code.
