Anyone familiar with "Motion Control Products" company?

Dont really see these guys products around these boards much (or maybe its me)...

the company is "motion control products" in the UK http://motioncontrolproducts.co.uk/p...products_id/79

Been looking around ther site and finding some good stuff like:

    Steppers motors:
425 oz-in (what the hecks a N.M?!) motors going for 53 bucks after the conversion
    http://motioncontrolproducts.co.uk/p...products_id/90

    Drivers/controllers
I'm looking for possibly something like a gecko 201, ther 115$
But these guys have something similar in capacity to the gecko for bout 65$

(4.2A max, 50 V max, microstepping to 25000 steps, or 1/125) per driver....
    http://motioncontrolproducts.co.uk/p...products_id/79

Thats $260for all 4 axes for my drivers (still need a breakout board i suppose)
the xylotex is 185$ for 4 axes, and the geckos would be 456$ for 4 axes....

Seems like its pretty good deal for some pretty capable drivers, am I missing something??

More like 65% of the capacity of a Gecko, which is 7a and 80V, and about 65% of the price.

They post here under the user name MCPLTD. If you look up their posts, you should find some info.

thanks for the info on the mcpltd posts!

Ur right its actually 57% the cost and 60% the capability of the geckos.

It's an intermediate (between 'standard' boards and the gecko) driver that's nice to have available; If you don't need the full capability of a Gecko, why spend the extra money (save 75% of your money or $50/each).

It's kinda like ' i need a pickup truck but I have to buy an big rig' well not really but it sounds better....:rainfro:

Problem is I don't think they ship to the US...? and have to buy a breakout board for the controller inputs...

Anyone deal with these issues yet?

    Hi,

First I am in the UK so shipping is not an issue; having said this I would be very surprised if they don’t ship to the rest of the world.

My cnc machine uses their MSD556 drives and I would have to say I am very happy with their products.

After one of my drives developed a fault I sent it back and got a new drive which I must admit did take 3 weeks to be returned and was done so two days after I emailed them for a progress report. This is only my experience and may have been a one off.

Emails have always been replied to in a timely manner and giving good advice or information. At least one of their staff (the one who is a member of the zone I believe) will go out of his way to help.

They also sell in an Ebay shop but I would advice going direct as I think (you would need to check) shipping is cheaper.

    Hope this helps,

    John

Just got an email from MCPltd stating they do ship to US yay and to order directly from the website. However its confusing since they have 2 websites, here is the same driver (MSD542) on the 2 diff sites, 2 prices...?

    https://www.motioncontrolproducts.co...2d20a69619b39e

    and

    http://www.motioncontrolproducts.com/MSD542.html

Two different prices for the same product, ill take the lower priced one please

Is there anything different in the wiring with these drivers, breakout boards etc?

    Hi again,

You might like to take a look here http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17857 a bit embarrassing but I was a beginner. It will I think give you all the info you need about connecting the drives.

The MSD542, has just come down to £33 from about £39.

The MSD556 is still about £50.00.
Our main site is the dotcom one and this is being upgraged at the moment to have a shop so we will have one site after christmas.
Currently you can only order through the .co.uk site, so use these prices.

    Hi,

I have had a lot of dealings with Motion Control Products and have had nothing but first class serves from them.

I would imagine what has happened in your case is a very rare event but not the best serves admittedly.
Hopefully the member mcpltd will look in and sort thins out, if he does not try emailing him direct at [email protected] he is very helpful.

Ignore my earlier rant. The kit was delivered to the wrong address yesterday, and i didn`t find out until after I wrote my previous post.
The kit was delivered to the billing address not the target address. I have it now and it seems to be really well put together stuff and well worth the money. Sorry for the last part of my previous rant.

I Have just purchesed a cnc kit from motion control products. The stuff looks great, however there is no instructions on how to wire it together and the website spec sheets are dire. does anyone know how to wire the stepper drivers to the breakout board? if so please post.

    The kit consists of :-

    1 X Breakout board
    3 X 4.2A MSD542 Microstepping Drivers
3 X 1.86 Nm Stepper motors (Low inductance)
    2 X 40V, 7A non regulated power supply

    Hi,

Try this; as far as I know the MSD542 is the same lay out as the 556.
