I bought a 1989 Fadal VMC 15 and am trying to convert it to single phase. I bought a new transformer and installed it. But the wiring diagram doesn't match my machine or wires. I seem to get axis faults from startup and can not clear it. It won't let me jog the machine to get to cold start. And recommendations would be helpful.

I can strongly recommend that you just buy a phase converter. you will be down on power, and acceleration if you run 1ph. I have a 20hp rotary and I run a 4020 with a 20hp high torque motor. it works fine. the 3ph converter will cost you about 900 bucks if you do it yourself / buy a phase craft converter or other brand from ebay and buy a motor locally.

you axis faults and whatever could be anything though. its not necessarily because its 1 ph.

I have a VMC 15 with 15HP / 10,000 rpm spindle running just fine on single phase. It was originally wired for 3 phase. No transformer swap, just rewire in-coming power. I am sure it will depend which Servo drives you have and also which VFD. IF the drives run on 110V it shouldn't be a problem.
