    Fanuc 16iMB - Z-Work Offset with "Measure"-function incl toollenght?

We have bought a Niigata HN80D -08 with Fanuc 16iMB-controller.

Is there any way to use the work-offset-measure-function including the tool-lenght?

If I use a 3D-taster, and align my workpiece i Z, I want to use the "measure" to calculate my workoffset without needing to write Z121.458 -> measure (for example).

I want to write Z0 -> measure, and have the controller to take my tool-offset in calculation.

    Best Regards
    Tony

Have you activated the tool length offset for the tool you are measuring? (G43 Hnn)

Yes, it doesn't affect weither the G43 is active or not. First thing I tried.

I think that is part of the Tool Length option(s), Tool Length Measure & Auto Tool Length Measure together with Offset Memory C

Your issue seems a little unusual (and unclear). most people don't require what you want and set the workshift and offsets using more standard methods. there are many ways to set the machine and offsets, depending on the type of machine and the options it has. I'm sure Fanuc can assist with options if you ask them.

    What seems unusual or unclear?

If I touch my workpiece with the tip of my tool or 3d-taster, I simply want to copy that machine coordinate in Z to my G54, including the tool offset, with typing "Z0." plus soft key MEASURE (if I want the surface to be Z0. ofcourse)

In both of our lathes with Fanuc it works that way, also in our 3 other mills with Heidenhain and Fagor.
Only in the old Matsuura from -84 with Fanuc 6M I need a calculator to set the workoffset in Z.

How do you set the workshift in Fanuc more easy?

If you wish to define/redefine G54, make sure that it is the active coordinate system. Bring the cursor to highlight X, Y or Z display in G54. Now bring the tool to a known coordinate (say, Z0), type Z0 followed by MEASUR soft key. Should work this way unless there is some option issue.

it's an option issue. The day before yesterday I sent him a PM....

    Long time no see.

We still have this issue, and when I wasn't working in the old Niigata, the operator who did, didn't care about this.

Now we have another fanuc-controlled VM, and wan't to understand how to set a work offset in Z with out 3D-taster.

The new machine have Fanuc 0i-MC

I have read our private message, but I'm confused.
Will have to catch up, and see how this i working.

    This is what happens.

    I call T1 M6
Then G43 H1 Zx.x or something (also sucks to have to move to get the compensation in)
Then I touch the workpiece, want it to be Z0.0
Press measure, and it automatically give me the tools lenght instead.

The work around is to type "Z158.703" and press measure, but why?

In our lathe, I call Txxxx, touch workpiece, hit measure, done.

Try the same method, without commanding G43.
Later, command G43 and check if Z0 is ok.

What I meant was, do not call G43 at the time of length-offset setting.

Re: Fanuc 16iMB - Z-Work Offset with "Measure"-function incl toollenght?

I tried both ways this morning. Nothing changed.

    Started with just call the tool: M6 T1 ;
Then went down to part and "Z0.0 measure" - Didn't work

    Then called M6 T1 H1 ;
    Same procedure, still same result.

Then called G43, and that could've been a bummer as the machine suddenly wanted to move the whole tool-lenght Z-negative.

Stopped it there, and tried to do a "Z0.0 Measure again", same result as previous.

Maybe you are missing some small point. Does your method work on some other machine ?
