    X axis design help

    I am currently designing a 5' x 10' R&P machine.

My question will no doubt get arguments from both sides of the fence.

    Which is a better design?

20-25mm round supported rails with an R&P drive system or 1/4" 1018 cold rolled plate with linear carriages with an R&P drive system?

I am looking for precision as well as smoothness in action. Cost is not a problem at this point in design.

    Thanx in advance!

Imo, neither. Each has their own issues.

If cost is not an issue, go with profile rail linear guides.

About the axis material. What is the best? P20 steel, H13 Steel or other?
