Unhappy Warp9 Ethernet smoothstepper with a G540 and MACH4 troubleshooting

    Hi every body ,
I have a set up made of Warp9 Ethernet smoothstepper with a G540 and MACH4 , I am turning around all manuals and FAQs and forum posts for a moment now and I have not yet been able to make it work : I can't jog my steppers , they are powered and getting hot maintaining torque but any rotation ! !!
Can some one please give me some troubleshooting advices ,
    • how could I control that the G540 is correctly connecter to the Smoothstepper (I have already checked that the pin 1 of the 26-pin headers of the smooth stepper is correctly connected to the corresponding pin 1 of the G540 DB25 connector ... ) , may by controlling the inputs switches ...
    • can the resistance value that I have set to 1000xstepper rated current be an issue (a part from their current protection function )

    thanks in advance

    my set up :
    Warp9 Ethernet
    smooth stepper , G540 , MACH4, Win7, Nema 23 steppers 57BYGHM201

so you have done it like this

The resistor is calculated by taking the current in amps and multiplying by 1000. If your motor is rated at 2.8A per phase you will have to use a 2.8K 5% 1/4W resistor. If your motor is rated at 3.5A or above you can safely not use a current set resistor; however, your G540 will not go into current standby mode which will result in increased motor heating.

At this point you should have holding torque on the motors and a green LED lit. If you do not then the motor is wired incorrectly or is damaged.

and do you have a green light if yes

do you have the ESS enabled as you selected motion devices if yes

do you have your motor velocity and acceleration set if yes

do you have your Axis mapping set if yes

do you have your E stop working if yes

to answer just use quote and change if yes to a no if the answer is no, if the answer is yes just leave it

Very bluntly, I think you need to get someone experienced to come to your site and sort the system out. Trying to debug all that over the web is a nightmare.

if the answer to any of the question`s above is no then that points to the problem

thank you very much for that daniellyall, here are my answers :

my motor is rated 1.7 A so I have wired a 1.7 kohm resistor

the two you have to check could be the problem, the G540 work`s well with Darwin and M4
