    Crazy Z

    PLEASE JOIN IN
I have a Bridgeport series 1 converted with PMDX 126 , GECKO drives , ESS , Using the old stepper (superior) motors
    MACH3 BOBCAD 25
Running on a rotary phase converter
All seem well for 6 months then loose Z drive so i replace Replace Z DRIVE
all works well for about ! month Then I loose Z drive again so i replace drive again These are 203 V GECKO (VAMPIRE) hard to kill
    Well here we go again
I can swap the motor leads at the breakout board and prove the motor good
all motors and cables test good on X,and Y
Only Z has a problem and it is only when hooked up to BOB at Z output
SOO I replace BOB same problem
Soo i replace PMDX 126 same problem
Soo i replace Z motor same problem
sometimes the motor will run in 1 direction and that is minus if you tell it to go pos it shows pos on mach 3but still is turning neg direction
could this be a mach issue
PLEASE PLEASE join in with any thing you have to help with this
    Harry

    Re: Crazy Z

I would suggest writing or calling Gecko. The Vampires are hard to kill, but I believe dropping power to them while under load is like a stake in the heart. Everything else is like garlic, might trip or fault (make it mad), but not kill it. I would double and triple check the whole DC supply chain to ensure solid non-transient supply.
