Looking to up size my balls.............. for my C7 ballscrews\nuts that is

While taking my machine apart today to add an oil fitting, I noticed the ball nuts had some play in them that wasn't there before. Maybe there was some break in?

Anyway, how much have you guys increased the size of you balls when replacing them?

Currently they are all .1245" in the X & Y.

    Thanks,
    Andrew

Re: Looking to up size my balls.............. for my C7 ballscrews\nuts that is

    Hello,
I have done the same to my shopmaster cnc with c7 ballscrew as well. Each axis was different on size when I did the work. One started at .1245 and I was able to go to .1265 and the other .1255. I purchased a range of balls from an eBay source and uped the size .0005 at a time till little play but the weight of the ball nut would still allow it to spin down the screw on its own while vertical before installing back into the machine. This is a very time consuming project and must be done with great care as installing to large of a ball could damage the screw in a heart beat. I installed .127 and it would not allow me to install all of the balls. But your experience may vary greatly and please do not take my size as a start point, just what I did. You must only go in small increments and may be different. Also for note, the screw may not be uniform in size the whole length therfore when you test it, you must go the whole length each time you test and may be free in one point and bind in another. Also you must count the number of balls in each circuit, as mine was not the same between screws. When I did mine I was able to add an extra ball to each circuit to make better but again if you do this you must be very careful to not cause binding and test whole length. You may not be able to do this and only try with care. Again my experience and I take no responsibility for damage. Hope that helps.

Ok, this will qualify as the "dumb question of the week".

"I purchased a range of balls from an eBay source ..."

Could you provide the vendor name or even the search term you used? I've tried a few different terms and have yet to come up with any meaningful results.

    Thanks.
