My 1236 Lathe has 7212 and 7211 Angular Contact, Wondering if I can go to 30212 and 30211 Tapered Roller Bearings? Advantage and Disadvantages of the two? Now that I have my VFD would like to replace the no name china bearing's with quality ones! I know the cost of the Angular Contact are 3 times the cost of the Tapered Roller's.

Are you having bearing problems? I don't typically hear about problems with the bearings on the larger lathes, usually just the mini lathe (7x12) where people are looking to try anything to get a better cut.
Tapered roller bearings will have a lower max speed and will also have more drag in operation when preloaded versus the angular contact.
Unless there is a problem I wouldn't change the bearings, and I would certainly not change them for tapered roller.

Thanks, only reason why I am asking is I am almost near completion on the CNC setup and was thinking I am in it this far why not replace them now. That way I know I have good ones.
