Disable overtravel alarm (regardless of control)

    Heya.

Is there any way to disable the most annoying overtravel alarms? I would like the axis to just stop, quietly.
(In case it is control dependant, the particular control in my case is 18i)

    Thanks!

You should be able to set stored stroke limits that will just throw an 500# fault. Just back off the limit and reset. If you are hitting the hard limits, you need to set your parameters 1320 and 1321.

No, the annoying soft ot will always be there on a Fanuc.

I worked and programmed CNC machines for 30 years and hardly ever got OT alarms.
Sure now and then, but it was always something stupid that I did that caused it. After
you do it a few times you learn and then just don't do it, or do it right.
you need to use and program the machine that way it was designed.
what are you doing (wrong) that is giving you the alarm?
    is it manual or in-program?

It is a safety feature. Do not dislike it.

Set soft limits a few mm before hard limits, as already suggested. Hitting hard limits is indeed annoying.

Even the soft limit alarms are annoying. I hit them all the time when I'm doing metrology checks on Fanuc while setting up. Okuma is better for this, it just hits limit and stops. No alarms, no hitting reset.

it is easy in your 18i control to edit the ladder and take off the OT alarms from alarm list.
if you do not have a password that protects the ladder from editing you can do it but before just back up it.

I believe that parameter 1301 bit 4 = 1 will cancel the alarm without resetting once you back off the soft OT.

OK, thank you everybody. Fordav11: The problem is that with our Fanuc lathe it is easy to hit the X+ limit due to the rather limited X-axis travel and when turning large workpieces with a tailstock it is just best to move the turret as far as possible before indexing (during manual set-up, quick tasks etc.). I'm not looking to *disable* the soft limits, but suppress the message (and the need for reset). Just like our machines with an Okuma control, they do not nag about the limits.

Anyways, it's not like the end of the world

Did you try 1301#4 = 1, as suggested by Dcoupar?

1300.1 it’s not labeled but it’s between LMS and OUT parameter. The overtravel will still work but the alarm will not pop up. The machine will not let you continue past your overtravel limit set in 1320’s.

Excellent info- super handy. Wasn't pointed out in the Fanuc parameter manual for my machine.

It is not listed in model C parameter manual, but listed in model D manual.
Designated as NAL (probably implying No ALarm)
