The B axis brake on my 2011 Okuma MB4000H self destructed. The machine had intermintent B axis MCS diff over (following error) alarms for a while. Typically the machine would alarm at the first index in the morning. I would hit reset then jog the B back and forth and the machine would run fine for the rest of the day. This didn't happen every day just occasionally.
About two months ago the machine alarmed and while jogging the B axis I got motor overload alarms. This never happened before so I called Morris Midwest and had them send a tech out. The tech saw the load was very high on the B axis while jogging it. He thought backlash might be causing the high loads so he disabled the encoder. The load did drop but not to normal levels, and there was visible backlash in the table when he jogged it back and forth with the handwheel. A special socket was needed to adjust the backlash so the tech left and we waited until the tool was shipped to us.
The tech returned and adjusted the bachlash. The load was still higher than normal and he heard a clicking noise when he was jogging the table. He suspected that the brake was dragging and started to disassemble the table.
