    Y Axis Bearing Spacing

    I'm starting my first CNC Build. I'm using SBR-20 1000mm (39 3/8") rails for my Y Axis spaced approx. 10". My Z Axis has 7" of travel & the back plate is 4" wide. I plan on fabricating 1/2" thick alum plates to mount the bearings to the back plate. How far apart should I mount the bearings for good rigidity and still maintain maximum travel? Are there any spreadsheets available to help calculate this distance? This will be a moving gantry machine.
