I want to prototype some torsion springs out of 34 gauge (0.094") steel music wire. Any ideas for a simple way/ jig to do it in the shop?

Google "spring winder". There are lots of free designs out there, though 0.094" music wire is pretty stiff, and will be hard to work with...

Thanks! That gave me a good idea for a quick and dirty jig to try out! Now lets see if it works with my thick gauge...
Music wire comes pretty hard. You might think about annealing it before winding it, and then hardening and tempering it to make it springy again.
That's not normally done when making springs from music wire. But with 0.094" wire, perhaps it might be....
I would make a hardened guide for my lathe tool-post, to guide the wire onto a mandrel mounted in the spindle, and put my big-a$$ hand-crank on the spindle to wind it.
