Post What CAD or CAD/CAM program would you recommend?

    Hello!

What CAD or even CAD/CAM program would you recommend for a newbie? At the moment I have a German made Kosy A5 CNC. And Im using Nccad 7 that came with it (bought the machine used). And as I understad it Nccad is a CAD and CAM program + it controls the machine as well. I have made a few things with the program, but find it hard and it takes a lot of time. Im mostly going to mill 2D but sometimes very simple 3D stuff. Been using Sketchup for some other things, and I find that program really user friendly. But from what I read there is a problem converting from Sketchup to G-Code? Im looking for a program that would be easy to use and that don't cost a fortune. Maybe there is some free programs out there? (Probably not, you don't get anything for free in this world). Hope there is someone out there that can guide me in the right direction =)

    Kindest Regards / Joel

Mainly Harmonica combs, but some other Harmonica related parts as well. So I will mill in Wood, Plastic and Brass.

Depends on how deep your pockets are....

    BobCAD is pretty good.
FeatureCAM is also nice, more on the top end of things....
Also FeatureCAM can be licensed on a month to month basis, so you do not have to buy the software.

Free download of both so you can try em out.

    Good Luck~!

    Hello JAHarmonicas,

    Welcome to the Forum :-)

You know a lot more about manufacturing Harmonicas than I do, but I would imagine that generating code to machine the Harmonica components you want to manufacture could benefit from parameterization, automating the creation of a part program for standard components and designs.

SmartCAM includes an especially strong set of user customization tools. If you'd like to check it out then we'd be pleased to discuss your application and expectations. I have a very good sales partner working in Sweden who can work with you.

    Good Luck.

I would look at both Fusion360 and Onshape. Both are free and Fusion includes CAM. Onshape is still working on getting CAM but it sounds like they are working on deals with current CAM manufacturers.

Thank you for you're replys, I'll give Fusion 360 a try. Looks like a nice software. But I will definitely look up the other software you mentioned here as well.
