    Are there any commands to write a .txt/.tap file from a Gcode?

    I've been playing around with a probe and was considering writing a program to do some inspection. Are there any commands where I could actually write a file? Really, just a simple text file along the lines of:

    #<x_1>=(random numerical value)
    #<x_2>=(random numerical value)
    #<x_3>=(random numerical value)

    The standard linuxcnc deployment comes with a number of examples which appear to be missing in the Tormach distribution. Check out the Grid Probe and Smart Probe examples described here:

    I've attached the samples for reference (I haven't tested them). This may not be exactly what you're looking for but it might get you started.

    Edit: also search for PROBEOPEN in G Codes - this is probably more useful.

    That works great in PathPilot. I calibrated and checked out the probe, and loaded the program. It went to work.

    However, I have tried everything I can think of, but cannot find the file it creates. I believe it is creating a file because if I edit the file name to include a bad path, it says it is an error and the file doesn't open. I added a path to Z:\Probe\probe-results.txt or .ngc, and I do not get the error, but I cannot see any file.

    My controller is networked, and I cannot find any file from a PC on my network. I have tried searching all of "Z" with the name, and for all files created today, but cannot see any results file.

    What do I need to do to be able to see the file?

    Thanks.

    I finally figured it out. I will start a new thread about the digitizing and the path to the file.
