Post Engraving Settings for a Victory Original Series Brass Plaque

I have a 60 watt laser and am wondering if anyone know settings for .019" thick High polished brass with clear lacquer coated with ultra thin color,

    It is brass-plated steel.

Does anyone have recommended setting for power, speed, and ppi?

    Thanks a bunch!

    eaglestone:

I assume you are using a 60W CO2 laser? A CO2 laser can't etch bare brass (or brass-plated steel) unless you use a coating like Cermark/Thermark.

Does "clear lacquer coated with ultra thin color" mean it is painted a color and then clear coated over the paint? If so, you can etch away the clear coat and the paint with a CO2 laser. This should require very little power. If you mean it is brass-plated steel with just a clear lacquer coat, then you can etch away the lacquer, but I don't think you will be able to see much contrast between the etched and non-etched surfaces.

    HI Robert,

    Yes, you are right,
co2 laser engraving mahcine not ok to negrave on bare metal ,if metal with a layer of paint or oxygen layer then ok to engrave.
if engrave on bare metal then need fiber makring machine

    Here is the manufacturer's description.

"SSB Series is our premium sheet stock. High polished brass with clear lacquer is coated with
Victory's ultra thin color, providing ease in standard engraving and bright glossy laser
engraving. SSS Series maintains the same standard but on economical brass plated steel. The
SSS Series is available in a larger variety of color."

If the material is designed for laser engraving (which it sounds like it is), then the vendor is probably your best source for recommended laser settings. I would guess that it doesn't take much laser energy to etch, so maybe start with 20% power and 300mm/s and work up from there if necessary.

I like to use the following chart as a guideline:
