Double Ball Nut on 1605 Thread Problem

Has anyone experienced a double nut that only screws half way on before getting stuck - at about the point that the second nut starts the thread?

Not sure if there is blockage between nuts where the spacers sit or maybe extra balls installed....... These are new nuts, first time installed. One of two
worked just fine. Problem occurred on the X axis screw (G0704 build).
    Any suggestions much appreciated.

That is the whole point of a double nut. There is preload between the two nuts and that that preload force must be overcome before the second nut can start threading. That is how the double nut removes backlash. The force can be considerable.

Hi Bob - thanks for the reply.

There was a hard stop when the second nut came up to the threads. Not a tight fit that needed 'persuation'. I tried claming the nuts axially to try to minimize the starting preload...but no help I'm thinking debris or extra ball, or something amuk with the spacers between the nuts

I'm familiar with repacking single nuts but wary of any extra steps if I dissasseble the double nuts.
