Height offset call tripping Z Axis over Travel Range error

    Hey folks,

I have a part on our EC400 that's alarming out when it calls its G43 H01 for the first tool, on approach to the first cut. The tool length is indeed correctly probed at just over 6" long. When manually pulling the tool and work offset and sending it to XYZ0.0 it is indeed at the origin, as probed by the spindle probe.

    Here's the first snippet:

I've been fiddling with it for a couple hours now, am I blatantly missing something here?

This may be a dumb question, does the alarm state "overtravel" or does it say "range error"? The reason I ask is because range errors are usually associated with unknown codes (typos etc), like if you instructed the machine to use T123456.

Anyway, have you tried inputting any code into MDI to test the offset? something like this...
    G0 G90 G43 H1 G154 P17 Z10.0

Does your probed work offset Z-value make mental sense? It should be the distance to bring the spindle nose from machine Z-zero over to the programmed zero on your workpeice. If the value is much too large then there might be a calibration problem..

To test the offset I used T1, called h1, and g00 x0. Y0. Z0., and it does go to the correct origin. The offset value is pretty large, as it reached across the tombstone, but definitely not out of reach of the tool, it's not z limiting because the tombstone is getting too close to the spindle.

Found the source of my problem,

It ended up that the tool extension was just a tad short, and it was tripping out on the Z movement into the part. Rookie mistake.
