    Microwave transformers

    Hi gang,
I was wondering if the humble microwave transformer would be suitable for a power supply for a Laser. I know they are step up transformers but I don't know the power or voltages of them in their many guises.
Thousands of these are thrown out every day around the world and they have some good capacitors in them as well (or so I am informed) and so may be suitable for a power supply of some sorts.
    Any ideas?
    regards

They may work but I don't think that they would have enough current available to keep the laser lit. A Magnatron tube is nothing more than a vacuum tube and the high voltage is applied to the plates with very little current. A laser tube is a very fancy neon sign, an electric arc in side of a tube gas. I would try using a neon sign transformer.
If it's not nailed down, it's mine.
If I can pry it loose, it's not nailed down.
