    Hurco KM-3P Head Getting Hot

Hi all. I have a KM-3P that I retrofitted with the Ajax system to run Mach. I have been running some parts with all day long cycle times and after 4 or 5 hours the whole head seems to be getting really hot. It is pretty unpleasant to hold my hand against most of the head casting. This just does not seem normal. The previous owner had replaced the belt (not sure about the delrin bushings), could it be too tight. I have read the manual and looked for a post but I can't find adjustment information.Thanks.

Yes, They can get hot, particularly running higher R's
If the delrin bushings go, you can tell by the noise level usually.
Did not do it with my mill as I only do short runs, but the Hurcos (KM3's)
around me here have fans added to the spindle drive to keep the bushings cool

So yes, the heat can affect them

I will try the fan but it just does not seem like it should be that hot. Is there some adjustments that should be made or checked. What is the slotted stud and nut up on top of the head between the quill and motor? Thanks.

That bolt adjusts a swivel plate above the vari-drive.
I think it is to calibrate the speed setting , so if your dial says 1700 and you really have 1600 spindle RPM's , you can then make an adjustment .
This allows worn belts or new belts a compensating speed trim .

You may wish to remove the louvered cover (s) to cool down the head
