    Question Dirty cooling water

    Hi,
The cooling water of my 2,2 Kw spindle is turning dirty brown rather quick. I've been using plane water and the spindle is made in China. Should i use any additive to avoid rust? Or is this oil / grease dissolving in the water? Do I need to lubricate the spindle regularly? I have not used the machine for a month or 2 in summer and did not remove the cooling water in that period. I thought the brown durt would wash out after refreshing the water a couplde of times but it still seems to get dirty again after a couple of hours of milling. The spindle runs fine, and remains cool, no strange noises. Should i worry?

    Thanx

You should be running some corrosion inhibitor in the water. Automotive anti-freeze mixed 50/50 should work well.

Yeah. Anti-freeze or coolant is already engineered to basically do the same job in a vehicle.

Tormach sells a lubricant/corrosion inhibitor for your cooling loop:

    35553 - Water Chiller Treatment, 8 oz.

Hi guys, thanx for your advise.
How stupid can I be. If been using this additive in my manual mil for years. But in the enthusiasm of getting my CNC started I just forgot about it.
I guess the best would be to dismantle and clean the whole spindle and then start running with the additive.
(Azalin, not sure what has been deleted, can you repost?)
