    Meshcam / questions

I want a cad/cam software package because I have a million other hobbies and don't want to spend too much time figuring it out. (nothing over 500$)
I have tried lots of cad/cam free demos, but I find Meshcam the easiest by far to pick up, and I like the fact I can create 2.5D carvings from scanned photos too. Although I have not perfected any yet.

My Question is for anyone who has the full addition Meshcam or Meshcam art..... Do you find you need other Cad software or any other file conversion software to be able to create what you want ?. Is there anything this software greatly lacks ?

I use me CNC occasionally to mill small billet aluminum parts and I want to create 2.5d carvings in hardwood also.

    Re: Meshcam / questions

If most of your work is 2D or 2.5D, then you may be better off with something like SheetCAM.

I've used MeshCAM since the first beta, and prefer a 2D package for 2D parts.

Many people do use MeshCAM for both 2D and 3D, but my preference is a pure 2D package for 2D parts. There's a lot of personal preference involved.

Personally, I've never really seen any good quality carvings from photos from ANY software.

Good point. Can you recommend a very good 2D package that cover pretty much everything ? sheetcam ?. I dont really want to have multiple software to do conversions of files. Point clouds from a touch probe into dfx would be a huge advantage for me so I can do some reverse engineering of parts. The carving isnt that much of an issue for me.

    Re: Meshcam / questions

Most people use multiple software packages, because no one package is great at everything.
I've never used SheetCAM, but it's supposed to be very good and powerful.

I always recommend trying demos until you find what works best for you.
