    Question Choosing A Stepper Motor????

    Hi you all,

    I'm new to this and I have search the forums but cant find any awnser.

    I want to build a CNC milling/engraving machine with 1000mm X-axis and 500mm Y-axis.

    I like to use it for Engraving, Drilling, routing PCB and 5mm Alumilium milling.

    How do I choose the wright stepper motor for these?

    I have buy me the H1 CNC Controller from www.hobbycnc.hu and can handel UniPolaire stepper motors up to 5 Ampere.

    But there are so many stepper motors available that I dont now which to choose for my requirements since I dont now nothing about stepper motors.

    For example here are some technical specs that mostly is showing of motors, how do I now what vallues they must have?ph. [V]

    They sell very reasonable priced steppers too.

    But it depends on the machine.
    What are you using as linear ways ?
    How are you driving it (with a leadscrew or rack and pinion) ?

    I like to use leadscrews.

    Here is also a place in Germany who sells cheap stepper motors, mabe somone can use this? www.mir-elektronik.de

    If I buy 3 steppermotors of 4 Ampere each do I have to build a power supply of 12 Ampere?

    Mabe this is a stupid question but i'm not familair with these.

    If the drivers are bipolar, and the drive is set to 4A then you would need about 2 amps for that driver.
    So you would need a supply of about 6A.
    We have a PSU that is 7A at 40V for about £41 plus VAT.

    It's the only 4A motor I could find on the site you mentioned

    Does someone has a schematic of a filtered power supply not regulated?

    Hi all,

    I have same problem like Vaako. I have this Philips stepper motor on pictures from old printers (cca 20 years, 7 cm diameter, 7.30°) and I do not know nothig about it power. (it probably lost power during the years)
    It can be connected like bipolar or unipolar. I drive them like bipolar with
    L297, L298 chips.

    So, I use it this motors for direct drive of spindle, and from my perspective they have low power, I can get higher working speed, so I must work with very slow speed.

    Now I would like buy new bipolar stepper motors for 3 axis but I can decide which motor to buy becouse I do not have any power references.

    If someone know somethig about this motors it will be nice to share this informations, or how many Ncm it will be enough for direct spindle drive (picture2) ?

    If you use those motors unipolar then they draw 4A each.
    In my opinion they are a bit weak for your application.
    They should have a reasonable high speed due to the low mH.
    So I gues you can gear them down.

    For info on powersupplies you can look on http://www.pminmo.com/.
    Look for slimpleps

    FWIW I use 1.9 nM motors in combination with trapezoid screws.
    I use it for same things you want to do.
