    Export part/assembly with decal

Doing design work for a customer, and they would like to have a decal placed on the assembly, so that they can check to make sure the decals on the part are visible when the parts are manufactured.

I've created step & iges files, but neither had the decal on it. Is it possible to export a part or assembly, and still have the decal visible on the surface? Customer is using Creo to view the file.

I don't think so. Step and Iges will not transfer that type of information.
Your best option will be to make a small pocket on the part, or use Split Face where the decal is meant to fit. Those features will transfer and be seen for the test fit, but it will only be a region of space and not the actual decal... Call it a place holder.

I pretty much figured out that it wasn't going to work, so I ended up taking the logo and tracing it in a sketch, and then creating a split line, and then colored the surfaces which did transfer through.

It was a major PITA, but I was able to make it work.

Nope. Solidworks maps it to the UV isolines as part of a visual representation. There's nothing mathematically there in the model.
