Hello all,
I am quite new to Mach3 and I think I need some help here with Mach3 in combination with the MX4660 from Leadshine and the UC100 USB controller.
I am not sure where to put this because I am not sure what is the problem the Leadshine MX4660, Mach3 or the USB controller.
Problem: I can't get the motors to run.
Hardware:
Leadshine MX4660
UC100 USB
Nema 23 stepper motors
- current/phase 5 A
- Voltage 2.0V
RPS 369 output voltage 36VDC
Computer:
Lenovo Thinkpad
Software:
Windows 8.1
Mach3 trial version
Power should be correctly connected, I can measure 35V DC output at the power supply and at the Leadshine power connector. While bench testing I don't have an EStop but the connection between + and - is shorted.
When I power on the MX4660 the green leads next to the motor connectors turn on, no blinking, which should indicate that it is OK.
After the power was turned on I can't turn the motors anymore, thus I would assume they have power and they are just "holding position".
The UC100 CNC drive software was installed without any error messages. During Mach3 startup I choose the the UC100 controller and not the LPT port. The blue and the green LEDs on the controller are "on" and not blinking, which according to the manual indicates normal function.

Here are my Mach3 motor settings:

I looked again in the Leadshine MX4660 manual and found this advise:
Attachment 297138
Not sure what to do with that, how to find out if the step&direction voltage is lower than 5 VDC?
Looking into the trouble shooting section I found this table.
Attachment 297140
#1 is OK I can measure power output 36 VDC
#2 the stepper motors come with four wires, this seems to be pretty forward, they are connected according to the manual:
A+ black
A- green
B+ red
B- blue
#3 the E-Stop connection is shorted
#4 as I said I measured the power supply voltage at the power connectors and I is 36.11 VDC. There is no mechanic system yet.
#5 I am not entirely sure how to do that or I did this correct. I found the settings under "Motor Tuning".
Attachment 297142
and increased "step pulse" to 5 us, not sure if that is helpful.
I turned OFF the "Charge Pump" setting the switch to the "on" position according to the manual.
I set the output current to 6.0A via the switches.
I set the Micro Step resolution to 1/16 - 3200
And last not least I can see the input from the Jog Wheel in the UC100 in/out monitor.
However ... the motors are not running
Any thoughts ... ideas? I have the feeling that I miss something in Mach3 but I am not sure. I probably should test this on a normal parallel port but I don't have one unfortunately.
I appreciate every help and advise.
Thanks
Chris
