They supply customers from a number of different market sectors. As part of their ambitious growth and development plans they are looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager.

Job Description

The Mechanical Engineering Manager will report to the Technical Director and have full responsibility for all aspects of Mechanical Engineering throughout the company. We are looking for a high calibre individual who can look at engineering problems and provide solutions and then ensure that concept designs are converted to automation solutions - on time and to budget.

This role will include the following responsibilities

Responsibility for the whole Mechanical Engineering function within the company including the management and continuous development of a highly skilled Mechanical Design Team
Mechanical concepting of Robotic Automation Equipment and Fixturing using 3D Modeling and simulation techniques
Cost estimates, quotations and budgetary control
Scheduling, resource planning and project management
Lead design review meetings for both customers and the design team
Liaising with sub-contractors for fabrication and machining, selection of mechanical bought in parts along with providing technical guidance and support to the System Build and Controls Teams.
Continuous demonstrable improvements to simplifly, standarise and value-engineer the company's technical solutions in order to reduce variation, manufacturing timescales and costs

The Successful Applicant

Proven experience of mechanical concepting and design of automation equipment / process machinery is essential. You must be able to come up with innovative but practical design ideas to solve engineering problems whilst at the same time meeting customer requirements and budget constraints. Knowledge of robot jig & fixture design, welding and handling applications would be a distinct advantage.

Previous experience of leading a team of design engineers and project management experience is also required along with an Engineering degree and 3D CAD experience.

You must be conversant with British technical and legislative standards, have the ability to produce design calculations and have an in depth understanding of geometric tolerances. You will be self-motivated and possess excellent communication skills along with the ability to work within a multi-disciplined team. A good appreciation of electrical control systems would be a distinct advantage. You will also be familiar with machining, other metal manufacturing techniques including welded fabrications and mechanical assembly methods.
