Hi, A lurker here who has read many Haas threads about Haas 4th axis issues but none of the good info has helped. We have recently acquired a 1997 Haas VF-E running version 8.29 software. The unit did not have a factory installed 4th axis. We need it so we have purchased and installed a used 32-4070 brushed servo driver, made cables to go from the 17 pin red HRT 210 to the IOPCB board for the air brake power, the 32-4070 servo power and the 690 servo input port on the Mocon board. We also made a cable to go from the 640 servo output port on the Mocon board to the 32-4070 brushed servo driver card.

When we enable the 4th axis (setting 30) as an HRT210 the cable checks out including the motor overtemp thermostat. If we turn on setting 53 that allows jog without homing axis the servo can be jogged 0.0001 but the A axis drive continues to speed up until either it gets to full speed and turns about 100 degrees (then errors out on either 106 A axis error too large or 111 A servo overload). If you turn the jog handle up 0.0001 it slowly speeds up but if you turn it backwards to -0.0001 it slows and stops but it does not hold but starts speeding up the other direction. You can set it to 0.0000 after going one way or the other and it does not hold stopped. I disconnected the servo connector inside the HRT210 and there is +5 volts on the correct pins. With the encoder disconnected, the servo functions the same as when it is plugged in, 0.0001 it slowly speeds up, go back to -0.0001 and it slows to a stop but then speeds up the other way.

I can give more details on the cable pinouts if that would help.

1. Does anyone have any suggestions?
2. Does anyone know how to see the encoder counts while in jog mode or during homing of the axis during initialization?
3. Does anyone know how to view a graph of the encoder error during movement?

Thanks in advance.
Keith
