starting wtih TPC-2100 control on 880

Hi. A friend bought a Tree 880 VMC with a Vickers TPC-2100 control that runs G-code and RAP (Rapid Assist Programming). We're very experienced, but need help "to find the parking brake" if you know what I mean. We have the basic startup questions......

    1) How do you home the magazine? The manuals show a button that we cannot find on the control or pendant. Sheesh!
    2) My buddy's shop uses the "touch each tool off a 1" block from the top of the part" tool setting method. What are the keystrokes to teach the machine the tool lengths?
    3) Sharing a short 2-3 tool program would be most appreciated since the manual showed only the G92 (antiquated) method of setting work offsets and the manual did not say anything else. (G54 where are you?)

    Many Thanks!

#1...push the "align" button on the pendent and push the "more" button till you find mechanism align and push that soft key to align the tool mag.

#2... use MDI and call in a tool to the spindle jog it to where you need it then push the "tool setup" button on the pendent and then hit the tool length soft key then hit the set tool length soft key and that's it!

#3 I'll have to send you some programs if you want tomorrow.

This control does not use g54. Instead it uses H1 H2 H3 and so on. The H values are called fixture offsets in the offsets page.

Also the control does not use H or D values for tool length or diameter they are always attached to the tool number.

M27 is low pressure through spindle coolant.

Ask any other questions you might have. I hope this helps!

    ktmktmman,

Yes that does help A LOT. I'll try to get up there this week and try it with him.

    Another way of doing it:

Tool and Fixture offset setting on A2100

Required: gauge block for setting tools. 1-2-3 block or similar. Always use same side

    Tool length setting:
    1. MDI tool into spindle (M6T1 for our example)
    2. Place gauge block on table
    3. Jog down, touch gauge block on table
    4. Touch TOOLS
    5. Select tool number from chart for tool in spindle (tool 1 in this case)
    6. Touch calculator
    7. Touch double arrow to expand and get more choices
    8. Touch fetch
    9. Select current machine z
    10. Select save
    11. Touch the dot to close calculator window
    12. Manually enter diameter offset in chart (for tool 1 in this case)
    13. Touch home when done
    14. MDI tool again (M6T1) if using for fixture setting

To use tool to set part offset:
    1. MDI known tool to spindle (M6T1 for example)
    2. Jog x and y to location
    3. Jog z to touch tool tip to zero point on part or fixture
    4. Touch fixture offsets
    5. Select appropriate offset number
    6. Select x, y or z from chart (which ever one you are setting)
    7. Touch calculator
    8. Double arrow to expand and get more choices
    9. Touch Fetch
    10. Select Current machine x
    11. Select Fetch
    12. Save
    13. Repeat above steps for y axis if needed
    14. Repeat for z if needed, but for z use “current programmed position” instead of current machine position

Thanks so much. I smiled at the note "always use the same side of the 1-2-3- block". I can see you have a lot of shop experience training people by that one comment! Good teacher.

Yup.. welcome to my life. LOL. I actually wrote that procedure specifically for a customer who bought a used 800 from me. The operator just refused to do it per instructions, so I had to make it very basic per the supervisor's request. Last I heard they never got him "on board' and were looking to move the machine because they couldn't be productive with that operator on that machine. Wonder if it's the same machine?
