    The 440 has arrived!

My PCNC440 just showed up yesterday. It came in main boxes, one main crate with the mill and another shorter pallet with all the extras. I got the deluxe kit (full disclosure, I'm sponsored by Tormach) and the only things missing were the flood coolant kit and the measuring/gauge kit. I'm working on an unboxing/setup video, still getting everything unboxed. Here are some pics:

Let me now if you have any questions or want to see anything specific. It seems very well built. Everything seems a lot beefier than on my PM30.

    Re: The 440 has arrived!

thanks for the pics. first chance most of us have had to see the machine in detail.

It is nice that they made the chip tray all one piece, don't have to worry about leaks. I wish, however, that they had put more thought into coolant draining. They could at least have followed the methodology of the 770, but this looks like it will be just as bad or worse than the 1100.

I guess they are assuming most of their customers will be opting for mist coolant, since the flood coolant system isn't part of the base package.

They include a manual with it? I keep waiting for them to post it on their website, but it hasn't gone up yet.

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure how the drain system works yet, since the flood coolant is backordered and I didn't get it yet. Once I get all the pieces in, I can see how it works and see if there are any ways to improve it.

I'm not entirely sure what I'll do for coolant. I might go with a fogbuster just because going to be a lot less mess, but we'll see.

Yes, it included a huge manual. It's printed and in a binder. I can talk with them and see if they would let me scan it and upload it, but there might be a reason it's not on their site yet. It's pretty similar to their other manuals from what I saw so far.

Now I need to put together the stand...

Don't worry about it. It is only a matter of time before they post a pdf. I was just surprised that hadn't done so already. Now that they are shipping, I am sure it will be soon.

Yes, I have a YouTube channel, albeit a bit small. However, I've done a lot of videos through the electronics company SparkFun Electronics. I did about 200+ videos through them, and have recently started my own YouTube channel:

I have the unpacking and setup video done, just waiting on approval from Tormach to post it! I'll post it up here when it's live.

So did Tormach sponsor you based upon what they say from Sparkfun? Just curious how this works.

I'm assuming so. They're looking to get more into the hobbyist/maker community, and I have some recognition there.

Beyond that, I have no idea :-)

    Re: The 440 has arrived!

I am considering the 440 with path pilot. I now have a small benchtop
miller with mach 3 I have a question on path pilot, does it remember
0,0 after shut off or is it like mach 3 were every time it is shut off you have to use the
edge finder. Also does the 440 come with limit switches installed ?

    Thanks

    jonsteve,

I'm not 100% sure yet how the homing and such works. You're right though, with Mach3, when you turned it off and back on again, it was at some random location. The 440 does have limit/homing switches, so you can always just have it do a homing sequence when it starts up. I'll look more into this when I get the controller hooked up this weekend.

Regarding the limit switches, they do come installed.

they seem to be looking after the boy's that have big followings on youtube, it's a good idea, not quite free advertising plus as a bonus a demo of there machines doing real work from real people. so well done keep up the hard work.

Thank you! You're right, it's not easy. I spent a good portion of my X-Mas weekend sitting at my desk with headphones on doing video editing... Not the most fun way to spend a weekend.

In your video you mentioned that the 10-32 screws fitted poorly. Are you certain that they are not M5? Many are on my PCNC770.

Yes, I'm sure. The manual specifies 10-32, and I tested the screws with my thread-checker as 10-32. The stand used about 3 types of screws, 90% were the same 10-32. I think it was actually the quality of the screw, not the thread. I had a few that just didn't look like they had a good starting thread. Really, it wasn't a huge deal, I just had a tap on my drill. I would say 9 out of 10 went in just fine.

EDIT: I removed my previous edit, the feet ARE M12-1.75. They were just so similar to 1/2"-13 that I got confused. My bad!

Very good vides, I can see why Tormach sponsored you. Between you and John (NYC CNC) there's going to be an extensive library of "how to" videos. That is only going to boost Tormach's sales, very smart modern approach - a win-win for all of us
