Post Speed control for a 12 V DC Brushed Motor

    Hi all,

I would appreciate if somebody could recommend a speed control for 12 V (27 A) DC brushed motor.

Please see pic of the set-up at the moment. A 12 V (27 A) power-supply is powering the 12 V motor directly. I have to turn the motor on and off at the AC wall power.

I would ultimately like a speed control to turn the motor on and off as well as speed if possible and then hook it up to a controller or stepper drive such as Dynomotion KFLOP/KSTEP and then through the CNC control software, to control the spindle via GCode etc?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Regards,

    Gary

Speed control for a 12 V DC Brushed Motor

Probably something like this would work as a simple DC controller

DC Motor Speed Control PWM HHO RC Controller 10 50V 40A 2000W Max | eBay

It says it's PWM but not sure if it would be compatible to Dynmotion. You can always ask them to verify.

The motor you posted doesn't look like it will handle 27amps continuous. If you have a DC current meter, you can find actual running current. I wouldn't be surprised if it was under 15amps. If so, you can use a smaller controller but they are pretty cheap for a 40amp one anyway.

    Dear Jfong,

    Thank you for your reply.

You are right the motor requires 18 A max. The 27 A is what the power-supply can deliver.

If possible what would you suggest in the way of a speed control.

    I really appreciate your feedback.

    Regards,

    Gary

18amps, that's more than I thought that little brushed motor can handle. I would try the 40amp eBay version then or similar. There is plenty of inexpensive DC motor controllers on eBay.
