    Is Yeager Automation still around?

I was wondering if you knew what has become of
Yeagerautomation.com The website has been down for
some time now and the yahoo user group for CNCpro has
    been overrrun with spam.

    Are they still in business?

    It appears not...

I've not looked at CNC stuff for a while, I started planning a CNC machine back in 2000/2001 and never finished it... At the time CNCpro seemed like one of the better options for what I wanted to do.

I've got keen on a router again, so started looking around and after a fair bit of googling I've come to the conclusion that he's not in business any more, or at least not on the web...

Anyone in the US want to give him a phone call? I'm sure google would find a phone number for him.

    Cheers, Me.

Yeager Automation is no more. Doug Yeager is releasing the program and its source code to open source.

Here is a post from Doug Harrison today on the http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/CNCPro/ forum:

...Doug transferred the files this morning and
I downloaded them to my computer an hour ago.

I will zip it up into smaller chunks and put everything up on the old
group. Give me a few days to get it all sorted out. The unzipped
package is 33MB so it will take awhile.

Perhaps the first thing I will do is generate a generic license key so
that anyone can use the software. I will work on that tonight.

The code was originally compiled in Borland C++ and is very neat,
though not heavily documented. We should not have trouble learning it.
    The "old group" is http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/yeagerautomation/

    Wow...

That's good news for the Home CNC community, cncpro is a good package from what I remember of testing it a few years ago.. Being open source will be great well, might get me to dig out my Borland Turbo C disks! (Wonder if they are still readable?)

The old yahoo group is alive and well. Doug Harrison has also taken it over and all spam (hopefully) has been eliminated and the group is now being moderated so new spammers cannot (again hopefully) get in. New memberships are only being accepted through the web interface and if the person is not recognized, they will be moderated until they prove they are not just spammers.

However, as noted above, most of the activity is now on the new CNCPRO group.

CncPro is designed to run in pure DOS. XP will not let the program have control over the parallel port!
Your choices are to either make it dual boot (small fat 32 partition) with dos on it or change programs.

CNCpro has probably one of the finest pulse engines I have seen on a PC. Early on we used CNCpro for our drive test stands and we got 100+kHz from a 500MHz Celeron PC. The step pulses were of remarkable spectral purity; almost no phase jitter or stair casing visible at all. Doug Yeager did a terrific job. Use DOS 6.22 with it. It was the best version.

You can do it during a fresh XP install, or you'll need additional software to keep your existing XP installation and add a partition.

    Available Now?

    Hi all,

I'd like to start a controller project now and use CNCpro. Is there a place I can get it (and maybe the source) now?

    John,
Doug H was able to get the last files and the sourcecode for Cnc Pro and they presently reside on his mostly vacant web site:
    http://www.crankymachinist.com/cncpro/

Have fun. There have been some discussions on the old Yeager Automation yuhoo group as well as on the CNCPRO group.

If you are not a member of these groups, you might want to investigate as some modded files were put up on the cncpro group.

    DOS Partition?

    Corrie,

I may have missed something, but if you are planning on a DOS partition to run the controller, DOS can only go to 2.1g partition sizes. I'm not sure if windoz 98 qualifies as real DOS, even if you don't start the GUI?

Can someone with more knowledge about what CNCpro needs / likes, please comment?

You can boot Win98 into plain DOS. Just hit F8 while it's booting to get to a menu that let's you choose DOS.
