Used Mac Turn 250W worth buying?

    Hi All,

I am looking at a 2008 MacTurn 250W for a business I am helping to set up. I have heard a few horror stories about the Multus' s and was wondering if anyone out there has run Mac Turn's and can give me any feedback.

I have a decent amount of experience on Mazak Integrex's and Okuma LB300MYW's working with other companies but there is a lack of used Integrex's in the country (AUS) and we really need something with a B axis and lots of tool holders.

Should I wait for an Integrex or go with the MacTurn, it is in good condition and has a barfeeder, parts catcher and a 70mm spindle tube, perfect for what I need. I also need something fairly reliable, so help me out.

    Thanks,

    Jimmy

Control - wise the Okuma is great. On that particular machine they had some issues with the telescopic covers between the B-turret and the W-axis. It helps a lot to limit travel in Z when indexing so the covers aren't slamming around. Moving the B and the W at the same time when transferring also helps with cover longevity. The other cover issue is chips getting behind them and tearing up the linear guides. They did design a cover upgrade, but before I bought I'd check by sliding back the covers by the B turret and looking for chips by the linear guide clamp blocks. If the blocks are removed, the upgrade has been done most likely. They also had a weak belt on the XB axis which can be greatly improved by ordering a HP belt from Bando. Those machines are advanced, so a careless operator can wreak havoc when not watching clearances with the A head and aligning them is not a fun job, so don't put johnny crash-a-lot on it.

    Best regards,

    best regards,
Experience is what you get just after you needed it.

Awesome, thanks for the replies, really helps knowing some of the gremlins before we dive into these things. No crashers allowed near this thing, I will be running it and I'm not a great fan of crashing so hopefully we might go have a look next week!

    Cheers, Jimmy

When they run, they are amazing, they are as alarm happy as they get, its a learning curve. When they are down, its usually very expensive. I liked it although my covers went too, sounds nasty!

You need to get a copy of the Macturn Pocket Assistant! This document will help greatly.
