Y-axis triggers Z-axis motor - Controller or Servo Error?

    Hello,

Here's a description of the odd error that we're suddenly getting on our Precix CNC Router with a Syntec EZ4 controller that uses Delta controllers.

First some machine info: The gantry on our machine is the X-axis and it travels along the Y-axis which is the longest axis on our machine.

    Ok...

When the gantry is moving along the Y-axis (no movement in X or Z), it hits approx. the 40" mark and the Z-axis servo clicks. When the gantry hits approx. the 60" mark the Z-axis servo clicks again.

If we are doing any cutting, within that 20" area, that requires movement along the Z-axis, the machine gives us an error and typically freezes up leaving us with no other option than to reboot the system.

The errors we get on the controller screen are either one or a combination of the following:
MOT 023 Z Axis Fatal following error exceed
MOT 008 Z Axis Loss Pulse
MOT 019 Z Axis Following error exceed

The error inside on the Delta Z controller is: ALE06

Just before this happens the movement along the Z-axis becomes very rough, makes more noise than usual and finally clunks to a stop.

We receive no errors when cutting in the other areas of the table. Only from the 40" to 60" marks.

My guess is that when it hits the 40" mark the controller is turning "something" ON within the Z-axis servo which causes confusion with-in the motor when it starts to move. I think it must turn this "something" OFF at the 60" mark.

    I'm wondering....
Is there a fault within the controller or controller program or is a parameter out of wack?
Could it be the Z-axis servo itself is failing?

Has anyone else run into this type of problem and if so how did you fix it?

    Thank you
    Ryan

Sounds to me as though you have a hardware wiring fault in the gantry or in the cable bundle going to the gantry.

    cheers

Thanks Roger...that crossed our minds too but we were hoping that wasn't the case.
We recently had to replace the Z-out cable as it was faulty so it makes sense another one could be going.

This was finally solved....ended up being a faulty Z-Out cable.
We replaced the cable and it solved this problem as well as one other...the hood kept going up and down on it's own.
