can someone please explain how to 3d chamfer? i can 2d chamfer all day long on the same level and on different levels, but im trying to chamfer an edge that is not 2d.

picture below for example, the edge of the bore is what im talking about.

thanks guys, i did try the search button but no luck there.

Did you select the side edges for the contour? If so then try selecting the inside(top) or the outside(lower) edge of the chamfer only then pick a contact point on the tool tip(on same page as tool table) that will ride along the curve. If I made bad assumptions include a part or sample part .iges file and I will try to work through it.

This video is similar to how I pull off what you are trying to do when I am using version 7. I don't have 9, but I assume that you can project the tool path. This is a real handy feature for 4th axis engraving BTW. Good luck!

Oh yeah and here is another overview that I enjoyed of the 3D contouring function (oops I mean morph for you guys that have the newer versions). This might be simpler yet for you and the screen shots are actually decent.

Yep, just do the 3d contour. Select the edges you want to contour.
